I was born and raised in Austin, TX. During college I cut my teeth on Brewhouse Brown from Real Ale; after college I became increasingly more enamored with beer and beer culture. Eventually I realized that I cared more about beer than I did my former profession, and it didn't take long to decide to pursue a career in brewing. After months of sending out resumes and aggressively marketing myself I received my first brewery job offer in June 2007 from a regional craft brewery in Frederick, MD, now called Flying Dog Brewery. I spent the next 20 months there working my way up from entry level cellar operator, to filter operator, and then eventually graveyard shift brewer. In January 2009 I moved back to Texas to work at the Real Ale Brewing Company and left mid-year 2010 to pursue opening Austin Beerworks.
My partners and I opened our brewery in May 2011 and the 4 of us ran all aspects of the brewery, from brewing and cellar ops, to sales and distribution, and everything in between. We have since grown to more than 40 employees, and I am very proud of what our team has accomplished.
I currently manage the majority of our physical plant operations, including installing new equipment, maintaining existing systems, and engineering and planning for brewery upgrades. Additionally I oversee our fermentation, filtration, and packaging operations.
