I took up homebrewing in the early 90’s while attending the University of Texas. I took a job washing dishes at Waterloo Brewing Co. in the hopes that I might have the opportunity to brew beer there—and to drink O’Henry’s Porter for free. I apprenticed there from ’96-’98 and followed that with two years at the Celis brewery, until it’s closure in 2000. An opening at a brewpub in San Antonio brought me back to my home town where I worked at the Laboratory and Blue Star Brewing Co. before I met Scott Metzger and helped to found Freetail Brewing Co. Since we started Freetail, we’ve seen San Antonio blossom from a craft beer wasteland to a scene as vibrant and diverse as the city we call home. I’m proud to play a role in that development: either from introducing San Antonio drinkers to new beers, lending help to new brewers bursting onto the scene, or helping found and build San Antonio Beer Week over the past five years.
